A working day is a day that is not a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) or a public holiday.
The concept of the working day is very important in legal procedures. Understanding this is vital to avoid reaching unwanted situations or receiving penalties for it. For example, if we have 10 business days to submit a tax document and we don’t, we could be penalized for a monetary amount. This penalty will always depend on what is established by law and is usually increased depending on the seriousness of the failure to submit certain documents.
So, in some cases, not presenting certain documentation would simply force us to redo a procedure from scratch. On the contrary, in other cases, it would imply the deposit after the deadline and the related sanction.
Also, it is important to note that within the European Union, if not specified, it will be working days. Business day, calendar day, and business day
The working day is not the only concept related to deadlines. It is also common to find calendar days and working days.
- Business day: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
- Natural day: any day of the week. In this case, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are also taken into account in the calculation.
- Working day: It is a concept equivalent to a working day, although it can vary by sector.
With this in mind, we must make it clear that whether or not a few days are included in the previous concepts will depend on the country. For example, in Spain, non-working days are considered Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, as well as December 24 (Christmas Eve), December 31 (New Year). Similarly, although the concept of a working day is equivalent to a working day, depending on the sector in which one works, Saturday could be considered a working day. Mexico is an example, working day and working day (instead of working day) is the same concept and depends on the company’s criteria. So there may be 6 working days or working days a week.
Example of expiration with working days
Today is Tuesday and they send us a notification stating that we need to provide some documentation. The letter indicates that we have 10 working days from the day following receipt of the notification.
By which the last day to submit the documentation will be Tuesday in two weeks. This same simulation can be performed in any case. If we had holidays on days other than Saturday or Sunday, we would skip that day as if it were a weekend. For example, suppose Tuesday (last day) is a public holiday.
