What is BIS?
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is an Indian government organization under the administrative control of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion. BIS is responsible for standards and conformity assessment activities in India.
The Bureau formed by an Act of Parliament, the bureau of Indian standards act 1986. The Bureau’s main objective is to promote uniformity in quality control standards throughout the country and to provide a platform for all concerned parties to participate in discussions on improving product quality, thereby contributing to the economic development of the country.

How to Apply For Bureau of Indian Standards.
- Fill up the prescribed Application Form along with the necessary documentation.
- Nominate an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) using the prescribed Nomination Form.
- Ensure that the application is complete, refer checklist of documents.
- Submit the duly filled-in and complete application along with requisite fees; documentation (in duplicate) and Nomination Form of AIR at FMCD, BIS Headquarters, New Delhi.
